This Week`s Flashback!

Each week am I going to present the top 3 on the Billboard chart at this date a past year.

And whats more natural then start with my birth year, 1986.

February 1st, 1986. On the third spot at the Billboard Chart there was a female Urban/Funk Band formed in Los Angeles between 1979 and 1990. The group consisted of drummer/founder Bernadette Cooper, vocalist Lorena Porter, bassist Joyce Irby, keyboardists Lynn Malsby and Robbin Grider and guitarist Cheryl Cooley. This band became the first and last (so far) all-female band in this style of music to all play an instrument. Their debut album, Never Underestimate The Power Of A Woman, was released on Solar Records. Single included "Multi-Purpose Girls". The team wrote and produced the song "Wild Girls" for that second album Girls Will Be Girls. After the second Solar album in 1983, they switched to the Constellation label (via MCA) for Meeting In The Ladies' Room which featured the 1986 hit "I Miss You" which peaked at #3 on both the Adult Contemporary and Billboard Hot 100 charts. "I Miss You" stayed on Billboard's Hot 100 for 29 weeks, an extremely long chart run at the time, and good enough to rank it as the third-biggest pop hit of 1986.

Yes we`re talking about Klymaxx, and their hit "I Miss You", here`s song.

The second place
was held by a well-known man, I`m sure you all have heard about him. He is an Academy Award and Grammy award-winning American singer, songwriter, record producer, and occasional actor who has sold over 100 million records. He had many hits through the years, "Say You, Say Me" is the hit number two on the Billboard Hot 100 on February, 1986. The Academy Award winning song was featured on the soundtrack of the movie White Nights featuring Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines. However, the song is not available on the movie soundtrack album. Motown Records did not want his first single since the Can't Slow Down album to appear on another record label. It finally appeared on the Dancing on the Ceiling album released in 1986 Its Lionel Richie off course, and here it is.

The fist place
was held by a song thats far better known for its cover version by Dionne Warwick and Friends, a one-off collaboration featuring Gladys Knight, Elton John and Stevie Wonder. This version was released as a charity single in the United Kingdom and the United States in 1985, was recorded as a benefit for American Foundation for AIDS Research, and raised over three million dollars for that cause. The tune peaked at #1 for four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1986 and became Billboard's number one single of 1986. In 1988, the Washington Post wrote: So working against AIDS, especially after years of raising money for work on many blood-related diseases such as sickle-cell anemia, seemed the right thing to do. "You have to be granite not to want to help people with AIDS, because the devastation that it causes is so painful to see. I was so hurt to see my friend die with such agony," Warwick remembers. "I am tired of hurting and it does hurt." Here it is, enjoy!

I`m Back baby!

No I`m not dead. nJust been so busy lately, but now im back, new year with new challenges.

The first thing that hit me when i came home from work today was:

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30TH, 10:45 P.M. PT - X17 RECEIVES REPORTS THAT BRITNEY HAS TRIED TO COMMIT SUICIDE!

Uh NOT again! Bits on hospital for the second time this month. This time the crew who arrived at Britney`s home where slightly smaller than the last time, but it was big enough.
X17 photographers on the scene report ONE AMBULANCE, A LARGE WHITE VAN, TWO UNDERCOVER POLICE CARS, AND APPROXIMATELY 15 MOTORCYCLE POLICE HAVE ARRIVED AT BRITNEY'S HOME.

Here`s an update:

After almost 72 hours of no sleep, Britney paid a visit to her therapist, Deborah Nadel, yesterday as part of her ongoing treatment.

Thats when, sources tell X17online, it was first suggested that Britney seek more intense treatment. Britney refused. Around 8pm last night, Brit's therapist arrived at her house, and subsequently called in the 5150.

So just what is a 5150? It's Section 5150 of California's Welfare and Institutions Code that allows for a qualified officer or clinician to involuntarily confine a person deemed to be a danger to herself or others.

A police officer or a county clinician can request the confinement for up to 72 hours. Before the expiration of that time period, a psychiatrist must assess the client to see if they meet the criteria for hospitalization. The criteria are:

  1. danger to self
  2. danger to others
  3. gravely disabled
  4. mental disorder

If the patient meets the criteria, she may be offered voluntary admission into a mental facility but if she doesn't want to go, then another hold (a 5250) must be written.

Anyone can initiate a 5150 (doesn't have to be a family member), but the person is required to give "sufficient detailed information to support the belief that the person ... is in fact a danger to others, to herself, or gravely disabled ... as a result of a mental disorder." It does NOT require the initiator to provide evidence of behavioral symptoms of a mental disorder.

While held under a 5150 order, patients have all rights accorded to a voluntarily admitted client:

  • humane care
  • religious freedom and practice
  • participate in publicly supported education
  • be free from abuse or neglect
  • refuse medications except in emergency situations where danger to life is present; or by court order where the patient is found to lack the capacity to give or refuse informed consent via either a Riese hearing or via conservatorship.
  • wear their own clothes
  • visitors
  • writing materials (including sending mail though they may be charged for postage)
  • safe storage and access to their personal property
  • have access to private phone conversations (though may be responsible for toll charges)
  • speak with a Patient's Rights Advocate
  • go outside for exercise and leisure (usually in a fenced area)
  • access their money in amounts for small purchases (vending machine, etc.)
  • be free from discrimination
  • refuse their picture taken for ID

Any person referred for further treatment after the initial 72 hour detention period, is NOT accepting treatment voluntarily, could be certified for intensive treatment OR appointed a guardian (usually a family member), or a conservator to take possession of the person's personal property and safeguard it on the premises occupied by the person.

The last time Britney was held against her will, she ended up staying at Cedars for only 36 hours, before being sprung by Adnan and escaping to Mexico.

This time, it's far more likely that Britney will be held at least for the entire 72, if not more, provided that her therapist and/or family can provide proof that she's a danger to herself or others.
