
This week are we going many years back when Rock and Roll was cool. These were the headlines February this year:
* February 3 - China buys grain from Canada for $60 million.
* February 4 - The Portuguese Colonial War begins in Angola.
* February 5 - February 9 - In Congo, President Joseph Kasavubu names Joseph Ileo as the new Prime Minister.
* February 9 - The Beatles perform for their first time at the Cavern Club.
* February 12 - U.S.S.R. launches Venera 1 towards Venus.
* February 13 - The Congo government announces that villagers have killed Patrice Lumumba.
* February 14 - Discovery of the chemical elements: Element 103, Lawrencium, is first synthesized in Berkeley, California.
* February 15 - A Sabena Boeing 707 crashes near Brussels, Belgium, killing 73, including the entire United States figure skating team and several coaches.
* February 25 - The last public tram operates in Sydney, Australia, bringing to an end the Southern Hemisphere's largest tramway network.

On #3 was a girl group, the members of the it were Shirley Owens, Doris Coley , Beverly Lee, and Addie 'Micki' Harris. The quartet formed in New Jersey in 1958, and went on to release a string of hits including "Baby It's You", "Mama Said", "Foolish Little Girl", and the #1 Pop hits "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" and "Soldier Boy. Their "Sha La La" became an international hit when covered by the UK/British group Manfred Mann, giving them a Top 5 hit in 1965, and the song "Boys" was covered by The Beatles. The group was # 3 on the billboard chart on this day in 1961, with their song titled "Dedicated To The One I Love".
On #2, James Sheppard and Clarence Bassett and Charles Baskerville, formed a group in Queens in 1960. This was initially billed as Shane Sheppard and the Limelites, but quickly became Shep and the Limelites. They recorded the original version of "Daddy's Home" on 1 February 1961. "Daddy's Home" reached no. 2 on the Billboard chart.
On #1 was an American country music singer, television host, actor, and businessman; Jimmy Dean. Although he may be best known today as the founder of the Jimmy Dean Food Company, he first rose to fame for his country crossover hits like "Big Bad John," and for his television appearances. Today, 47 years ago he was on #1 on the Billboard chart with the song "Big Bad John".
